Collect local cultural relics and watch the history of the island
Take the 1963 Chinese New Year card personally signed by the founding premier Lee Kuan Yew as an example. Lee Kuan Yew usually signs in English, but Chinese people sign relatively few. He read the Chinese signature of Lee Kuan Yew three times: a new year's card signed by Lee Kuan Yew at the opening ceremony and personally signed by shoemaker Li jiongxiang; the signature of "Lee Kuan Yew bows" issued by the prime minister's office on January 21, 1963, printed with a greeting card.
Another valuable signature document is the Chinese document of Yusof bin Ishak, the first president of Yusof bin Ishak in the capital of the people's Republic of China, on December 27, 1963, in recognition of his great contribution to the conference and the referendum in Malaysia held in 1962, with his own signature in English. Zhang Qiwen said: "over the years, this is the only yousufu signature I have seen. The signature of a famous person must be intimate and involve historical events. It is worth seeing. The signature of a famous printed version will not be recognized." Even a business card is a narrative history. The address of "Chen Neixiang" is "Botan house 83 Neil road". During his inspection, Zhang Qiwen learned that businessman Chen Zhenxiang (1883-1977) was a local shipping pioneer. His name was Chen Jindian (named after Jintian Road). He was born in Nepal in bungalow 81. Unfortunately, this native Chinese house, which lived in the fourth generation of Chen family, was demolished shortly after it was sold in 1978. The collector said: "the big business card of the elder generation is very rare. It's like a needle on the sea. Have you seen Tan Kah Kee's business card?
Compulsory contract and Nanchong mechanic certificate
Zhang Qiwen bought a valuable contract document from a foreign collector. This is February 13, 1899, by William Alexander Pickering Pickering (1840-1907, named after Pickering Street) signed the British Chinese contract, which introduced in detail the two Chinese coolies, Yaya and Keya, who were transferred to Australia as a servant for three years. They provided a variety of provisions, including 10 hours of working time, 8 months of monthly salary, 32 yuan of wages paid in advance by the employer, as well as accommodation, food arrangements, travel expenses, medicine expenses, and China Festivals and so on. On March 25, 1889, coolie's contract family account arrived in Australia.
In 1888, the population of Singapore increased rapidly, about 100000 people. Zhang Qiwen said that it can be seen from the contract that China's coolies are not only from Nanyang, but also from Singapore, Southeast Asia and Australia. Kirin is a British Nottingham county. He went to Taiwan for adventure and mastered Chinese and dialect. In 1877, he became the first Chinese official to protect civilians in the British colony. He mainly managed the coolie market, suppressed underworld activities and prevented child prostitution. In May 1889, he was injured and rescued.
Another memorial book of Wu Mohe, the mechanic of south window, reflects the history of patriotic overseas Chinese who returned from Southeast Asia during the Anti Japanese war. From 1939 to 1942, more than 3200 overseas Chinese drivers and skilled workers attended the Nanyang overseas Chinese return service organization jointly organized by the South China Overseas Chinese to supplement the vacancy of Chinese truck drivers (about one third) and ensure the transportation line of Myanmar Road, among which more than 1000 were sacrificed.
Zhang Qiwen found that Wu Mohe was a mechanic in Nanchong at the age of 35 and was on the list of the second batch of machinists. It is attached with the "commendation certificate issued by the government of the Republic of China" issued by the government of the Republic of China in Singapore in 1946, the badge of the "independent engineering corps of the 15th group army" and the photo of the machinist. The title is "Wu Fu Zi No. 21: not afraid of death, not greedy, patriotic and loving. The collection of cultural relics really reflects the real life of that era. The collector pointed out a slightly broken "food distribution" pamphlet, which recorded the food rationing during the Japanese occupation and the records of every household queuing to buy food. He found that Wuji banrang No. 59 should be "guangqingsheng" company. When citizens buy the actual records, they will be severely punished if they make false reports. Such cultural relics "can meet the requirements". Collectors can see the historical background and connotation of cultural relics. There is only one gold collection. Sometimes the owner of an old shop takes out something to ask him. If the collector doesn't know the history, it's easy to "take the treasure.". He insisted that if he did his homework, he would start buying.
Precious cartons and chicken baskets in the 1950s
Some of Zhang Qiwen's things are very life-oriented: in the 1950s, "Mei Zhenxiang" shredded meat line printed with "peacock trademark", "ZHUGE Liang story - good, gift sharing" and other advertising slogans. Located at 229 Victoria Street, the post code is a five digit number. There is also a porcelain plate with "yuanchongmei tea house" printed on it, a tiger beer bottle opener, and a g-basket made by Gambang in the 1930s and 1950s. It is said that it is a common sight for Chinese people to ride bicycles on holidays.
In the 1950s, a large-scale handwritten "Huiji" advertisement also attracted collectors' interest. As for "Xingzhou agent Yongxing Co., Ltd. should be a life-saving oil / own domestic silk sales / home new clothes, welcome, now here", handwritten advertisements on this kind of cloth are very rare.
In the same era, Tongji Hospital donated funds to patients and launched coupons, festivals and marriage coupons for donors. The collector received Yuan Zheng's wedding coupons donated in 1959 and donated by several companies. The Bank of China project, built in 1953, is also a collection for those who want to rent offices.
The various links of cultural relics collection enable collectors to constantly identify the historical fragments of Singapore in the process of searching. He believes that museums will not necessarily find folk things. By celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the people's Republic of China, opening up their collections, starting a career, and looking forward to more private collectors displaying their collections, they will be happier alone, so as to encourage young people to join the ranks.
